New: Meiko's mobile SCBA workshop
The flexible choice for extended incidents or when an interim solution is required on site
Meiko is a specialist provider of PPE processing solutions, with a particular focus on respiratory protective equipment. With market organisations around the globe, the German company has built up many years of experience in delivering tailor-made systems for fire services, fire service technical centres, training facilities and industry. From 1 to 6 June, Meiko will – for the first time – be unveiling its mobile solutions for processing respiratory protective equipment. Together with special vehicle manufacturer Mosolf, the Meiko experts have developed a compact mobile system that offers fast throughput times and consistently hygienic results. Designed for deployment at major or extended incidents such as floods or wildfires, it can also be used as an interim solution on fire service or industrial premises.
Housed within a three-axle trailer, the workshop provides a dirty side and a clean side across a total floor area of 15 m². Two doors in one of the long sides of the trailer allow equipment to be received and returned through separate entrances. On the dirty side, an extraction table provides a dismantling area where PPE can be prepared for cleaning before being loaded into the TopClean D PPE decon machine. This machine allows SCBA sets, with or without cylinders, as well as regulators, to be pressurised with compressed air and cleaned. The patented system prevents water from entering the pneumatic components, ensuring the equipment functions correctly. For precise positioning in the rack and to eliminate spray shadows, BA masks are secured onto patented mask holders. Soot, combustion residue and other hazardous substances can then be removed using the reversing wash system – without contaminating the inside of the mask. After cleaning, masks and regulators are dismantled in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and cleaned and disinfected in the TopClean M. The rack of equipment can then be placed into the drying cabinet opposite, which serves as a transfer hatch between the dirty side and the clean side. Once the drying process is complete, the equipment is removed from the rack on the clean side, reassembled, tested, packed and issued for use once again.
The mobile SCBA workshop weighs under 3.5 tonnes and can be deployed flexibly at incident sites. It can also be used as an interim solution on the premises of fire services or industrial facilities. It delivers the full functionality of a properly equipped SCBA workshop – from cleaning and disinfection through to drying and testing of respiratory protective equipment. The integrated technology and the separation into dirty and clean sides offer enhanced protection against cross-contamination during PPE processing. For hygiene reasons, the dirty side is kitted out exclusively with stainless steel fixtures. Short cycle times ensure an efficient workflow and help SCBA technicians get equipment back into service quickly. As a specialist solutions provider, Meiko is able to tailor each configuration to meet individual requirements and customer needs.
